Charlene T. Robertson, MD
Endocrinology
Dr. Charlene T. Robertson is board certified in endocrinology,
diabetes and metabolism, as well as in internal medicine. She
specializes in the effective management of diabetes and has
advanced training in geriatric medicine. Her areas of interest
also include thyroid disease and metabolic bone disease. She
is the only endocrinologist currently practicing in
West Volusia County.
Dr. Robertson received her medical degreeat St. George’s
University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies,
in 2005. While there, she was awarded two scholarships
for academic excellence. Dr. Robertson completed a
residency in internal medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical
University in Syracuse, New York and had a fellowship
in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism from the
same institution. In 2010, she underwent a one-year
fellowship in geriatric medicine, also at SUNY. Her
training allows her to treat adrenal gland disorders,
pituitary conditions, male hormone disorders,
polycystic ovary syndrome and other endocrine
disorders. As part of her education, Dr. Robertson
became certified in thyroid ultrasonography and
biopsies and densitometry. This specialized training
allows Dr. Robertson to diagnose and treat thyroid
cancer and to accurately interpret bone density in
order to design effective treatment plans for patients
with osteoporosis.
During her academic career, Dr. Robertson conducted
joint research into treatment therapies for diabetes
and presented the findings to the American College of
Physicians and to the Endocrine Society.She worked on
the Support, Health Information, Nutrition and Exercise
(SHINE) study, a five-year trial based on the Diabetes
Prevention Program model. SHINE was conducted at
primary care sites and sought through education, exercise
and nutrition to help patients with impaired glucose
tolerance lose weight and reduce their progression
to diabetes.
Dr. Robertson is a member of the American College of
Physicians, The Endocrine Society and the American
Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
As an employed physician of Florida Hospital Fish Memorial,
Dr. Robertson complements the hospital’s existing services
and offers patients the convenience of expert diabetes care,
close to home. Her approach to patient care focuses on
patient education. By providing patients with accurate,
up-to-date information, she helps them understand and
manage their disease. Dr. Robertson’s knowledge of
geriatric medicine is essential to the many elderly patients
with endocrine disorders and diabetes.
Dr. Robertson’s clinical expertise and dedication to
improving the health of patients with endocrine disorders
makes her a welcome addition to the Florida Hospital
Fish Memorial team. She is currently accepting new patients.
